The Things Kids Say #1

I'm sure that there are going to be a lot of these as we go on, so I might was well start the first one off by numbering them!

We were driving back from picking Tom up from the airport (he almost got on a plane for the first of three times today!) when Max suddenly asked an odd question. He asked if the 23rd had passed yet. I said that it was the 23rd, and why was he asking? He said that after the 23rd we cold vote for Bob Allen and Smith (or whatever the correct names are - he pulled those out and I have NO idea what they are!). Tom and I looked at each other and nearly lost it! Somehow between the signs on the side of the road, the folks in the Memorial Day parade, and who knows what else, he knew that after today we could vote here for the Senatorial Priamary. I was so proud (gotta love a kid with a sense of civic responsibilty at 5) and at the same time trying not to laugh out loud! He is so suceptible to advertising, of any sort apparently.

So, I spent the next few minutes ezxplaining that I wasn't yet registered here to vote (we only moved a few months ago and I haven't even gottten a local driver's license yet!) and that we had to be registered first to vote. Gotta love the things kids say! (And yes, I'll work on the driver's license!)

We have a FIRST GRADER in the house!

Well, today was the last day of Kindergarten, and Max passed, so he's officially a First Grader!

He is very excited about school and has learned a lot, so I guess Kindergarten was a success. His teacher said that he was a good student and that he seemed to enjoy learning, but that he needs to color and draw and paint more over the summer. Not bad for a 5 3/4 year old (as Max tells everyone). Now if we could only get the boys to sleep later during the summer...but that's another day...

Here he is with his two Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Saul, and Mrs. Gale. Ms.Saul (in the pink) was his teacher from August 05 - March 06. Mrs. Gale (in the blue) was his teacher from April 06 - June 06. They were both wonderful teachers and made Max feel welcome at his schools. We were ver pleased to have them as teachers this particular year, as we know how important it is to get a good start in school! Watch out First Grade here we come!

Mom is in the Hospital

Mom is in the Hospital
Man. When it rains it pours. I lost both my grandparents in February of thus year, and now my mom has a tumor of some sort in her brain. It's 1:15 in the morning and I can't sleep. I'm heading to Texas to be with her tomorrow, so I'm not really sure why I'm writing this. The more info we get the better, but how can anything inside your brain be a good thing? The doctor said that it might be a cyst of some sort, but that it also might be a Glioblastoma, and aggressive form of cancer that takes the lives of most of the folks that it affects. This really sucks. That's the best way I can describe it. I guess that's allI have to say for now. Now sure why I even got on here, but I needed to tell someone and didn't want to wake Tom up. He's got along week ahead of him with me being gone...hopefully tomorrow will bring better news. If the swelling goes down she'll be more like herself.

...sigh...BIG SIGH...

Old Friends

Old Friends
So an old friend with whom I've been in contact with recently ran across another old friend from elementary shool. They started talking and decided to get a group toegether of the important folks in their lives - those who had an impact. As I attempt to hunt these folks down, it amazes me how many memeories are wrapped up in these few people. I truely did spend my childhood with a small group of friends. Since I didn't move from basically first grade on, I ahve a alot of the same friends throughout my school aged years. The problems we ran into was a population problem - they kept splitting us apart as neighborhoods grew and as more folks with kids moved in. Even though we lived in a town with seven military bases it seems the kids that were there to stay grew close. We all started at the same elementary school and ended up mainly at two high schoosl with a few others scattered around. Several left the state before we even got to middle school, and a few more peeled off as we got older.

We did Girl Scouts with these folks as well as birthday parties, play dates, swimming fun, and the list goes on. It's the little events that are creeeping back in now - those things that really did shape the person whom I've become. I am really thrilled at the idea of seeing the folks that had such a great impact on my life in a setting where we can really reconnect.

But it is an odd process hunting those that are "lost" down. I have one person where I have two possible names that I just need to pick one to call and see if he's the right one. Then we have the elusive friend whose name pops up here and there - and we know it's him - but we can't find any contact info. Then there's the friend we saw on TV and the two friends with such common names that in San Antonio alone there are several (and we're not sure but we think at least one left the state!). So tracking people down is a chore, but it will be so very worth it when we get together next year. Hopefully everyone else will have a similar reaction to our plan - not the revolting HS reunion reaction that we've all been through already. I'm sure you'll hear more about this from me as time goes on, but it's becoming a reality now so I can give voice to it and share so you can be excited right along with me.
